About Us

The school of Nursing ABSUTH Aba was established in 1948 by the British colonialists. In 1963, following the creation of regions in Nigeria, the school became the property of the then Eastern region The school metamorphosed from thence to its present ownership by the Abia State government.

Following the establishment of Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) Aba, in 1994, the school's name changed to the “School of Nursing Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba, and the management was subsumed by the Teaching Hospital management.

Location

The school is located in the same compound with Health Management Board (HMB) which is occupying a large area of about 40 acres. It lies in the south of Aba township between Hospital and Jubilee Road, Aba.

The vision of the school is Nursing Education Through Contents and Processes that will individually and collectively prolong life, prevent illness, restore health and alleviate suffering. This will be achieved through quality education and diligent nursing care.

Admission Requirements

The minimum entry requirements into the general nursing programme are five credits level passes in WASSCE, GCE, NECO O’Level or NABTEB in not more than two sittings. These subjects must include: English language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Duration Of Programme

The duration of the study is three calendar years.
