ABSUTH Aba, Abia State Nigeria, formally relocated to its permanent site in 2007 after several years at its old site in the heart of Aba, the Enyimba city, ostensibly yielding to the exigent need for expansion, modernization and transformation of the institution into a 21st Century compliant facility. The difference since the relocation has been quite profound as can be seen from the multiple advances, especially infrastructure and equipment-wise
Meanwhile the bricks at the old site remain a lucid reminder to any enquirer, that the foundations were laid as far back as October 11, 1926 when they were first raised to serve as the pioneer Post Office for the then sprouting city of Aba, although three years afterwards, in 1929, the colonial authorities thought it better to re-configure the complex into a General Hospital.
Following the departure of the colonial authorities, the Hospital adminstration was passed down from the regional authority to the East Central State government from whence it was taken over by the old Imo State Hospitals Management Board. Abia State government later aquired it through the Abia State Hospitals Management Board upon the creation of the State in 1992
For 65 years, the Hospital continued to serve as a receptacle for every form of healthcare situation, especially, domestic and industrial emergencies, as well as road traffic accidents occuring along the connecting highways between Aba metropolis and neighbouring towns and States.
On April 20, 1994, the then Miltary Adminstrator of Abia State, Col. Chinyere Ike Nwosu, enunciated the script of the Edict, which saw the emergence of Abia State University Teaching Hospital
